My Truth

It's no secret that I like wine. I LOVE WINE! That was the easy sell for me in joining Scout & Cellar. But, there's so much more to this company that just great wine. Scout & Cellar is 100% focused on offering a cleaner, healthier and altogether better wine experience for everyone. Did you know that mass-produced wines contain the following ingredients? :

-Grapes
-Up to 350 ppm (parts per million) of sulfites
-Up to 16g of added sugar or sweetener concentrate
-Ferrocyanide
-Ammonium phosphate
-Copper sulfate
-Mega-Purple
-GMO ingredients
-Synthetic pesticides

A simple google search for any of the above listed ingredients will made me question what exactly was going into the wines I was consuming. Pesticides? Ugh! But, in vineyards that produce mass quantities of wine, it's how the grapes can be maintained on a large scale. Not to mention all of the other additives to make that wine taste the same each time you buy it. Did you know that the FDA is not required to list the ingredients on bottles of wine?

The more I thought about what was being added to the wines I was drinking, the more important I realized it was (for me) to start paying attention to what I was putting in my body. I'm a cancer survivor (7 years and counting baby!!) and I make so many decisions on what I eat based on that. I've cut out sugar, especially added sugar in processed foods. There are many research studies out there that will tell you that sugar may in fact, feed cancer cells. Am I perfect? No, of course not. But I'm definitely more aware of how the food I eat, may impact my body.

Speaking of cancer, it's not going away. More and more cases of cancer are being diagnosed everyday, in people younger and younger. Yes, there have been amazing advances in medicine, but we've still got light years to go. I firmly believe that one of the largest contributors to the uptick in the diagnosis of cancers, is due to environmental factors. Especially what humans are consuming daily - I'm looking at you pesticides! There's got to be a better way and I think Scout & Cellar is at the forefront of creating safer, alternative methods to raising grapes naturally and producing a healthier product to drink.

So, YES, I think this is an amazing opportunity. I want to be able to enjoy a bottle of wine with friends and know that the best possible ingredients are being used. I want my customers to feel confident in the integrity and reliability of clean-crafted wine. Let me share this incredible experience with you!!!

Welcome Home

I'm so excited to be working with Scout & Cellar as a wine consultant. I know what you're thinking: This is Erin's dream job!! You would be 100% correct! It's no secret that I love wine and I love sharing a bottle of good wine with great friends. It's as if all of my worlds are colliding and I can barely contain my giddiness. It's been a minute since I've had to hustle, use my brain (not my barely there, exhausted mom brain) and work towards a goal. Gosh, I'm feeling energized and fueled with this company!

So, what exactly is clean-crafted, organic wine? Clean-crafted wines are grown naturally and bottled consciously. They have no added chemicals or preservatives, NO SUGAR ADDED EVER (this is big for me), sulfites added only when necessary, and no synthetic pesticides (because, GROSS). Clean-crafted wines come from family-owned vineyards and farms. Sustainable, organic, or biodynamic farming methods are used. Grapes are harvested by hand! What does biodynamic mean farming mean? Biodynamic farming is a form of agriculture similar to organic farming but with other esoteric concepts. According to the Biodynamic Association: Biodynamics is a holistic, ecological and ethical approach to farming, gardening, food and nutrition. Interesting, huh?

In a nutshell: I not only whole-heartedly agree with Scout & Cellar's concepts regarding clean-crafted wine, I also believe in the power of building strong relationships in all aspects of the wine business. I hope you'll join me on my wine adventures and better yet, give this wine a try! I think you'll love it is much as I do!!!

One last thing: I realized that I've really missed blogging! Writing about my cancer journey was such an important part of my healing process, but I also just enjoy writing. So, for those of you that followed Craptastic Tuesday...I'm back (in a much healthier place!)

Love you all!

Erin
